What is CDN ?
What does it do ?
CDN (Content Delivery Network) is a network for efficient and speedy delivery of web content.
With the rapid increase in the number of users using the Internet and the increase in the amount of web content flowing over the Internet, such as video distribution, the load on the network continues to increase. As a result, it is not uncommon for websites to become unavailable due to concentrated access, or for content to take a long time to download.
CDN is a network system devised to solve such problems.
By optimizing the network for web content delivery, CDNs can prevent problems with website display and content delivery even when access is concentrated or content is large.
How does CDN work ?
If CDN is not used, web content is downloaded by directly accessing the server where the content is stored.
In CDNs, the server where the original web content resides is called the “origin server. In CDN, it is not only the origin server that delivers web content, but also multiple “cache servers” that acquire copies of web content from the origin server and deliver it on behalf of the origin server. Multiple “cache servers” exist. By distributing the load on the origin server, efficient web content delivery is achieved.
Another notable feature of the CDN system is that the cache servers are located all over the world. Since the cache servers are accessed at a closer network distance than the origin servers, web content delivery is faster.
