Shanghai, china

A popular city in Asia that continues to develop

Shanghai is a city directly under the jurisdiction of the People’s Republic of China, located at the mouth of the Yangtze River Delta. It is a commercial, financial, industrial, and transportation center, and is designated as one of the National Central Cities by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.

At the end of June 2012, the permanent population was 24,334,000, of which 14,511,000 were Shanghai households and 9,823,000 were foreign residents. For the past ten years, Shanghai’s population has been growing by an average of 660,000.

Popular Night View Spots

The Bund, which was a British and American settlement from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, is a 1.1km stretch of modern Western-style buildings along the Huangpu River. The Bund is popular as a spot where you can overlook Pudong on the other side of the river, where the East Pearl Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center are located. The night view, in particular, is the most spectacular in Shanghai, and is best viewed from the river on a cruise ship.
Yu Garden is a vast garden. It is a great place to take a stroll during the day, but the illuminated Yu Garden at night is fantastic and beautiful.

Linear Motor Train

As of January 2014, Shanghai is the only city in the world with a linear motor car system that operates at a maximum speed of 430 km/h. The Shanghai Transrapid and Shanghai Maglev Train are magnetic levitation linear motor cars using the Transrapid system that access the Shanghai Pudong International Airport in Pudong New District, Shanghai, People’s Republic of China. The line color is teal green, and visitors are encouraged to ride the train when traveling from Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

Enjoy Shopping and Dining

Tianzifang or Tianzi Fang is a touristic arts and crafts enclave that has developed from a renovated traditional residential area in the French Concession area of Shanghai. It is now home to boutique shops, bars and restaurants.

Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe

When I think of entertainment unique to Shanghai, the first thing that comes to mind is the Chinese circus called “Zougei”. The highlight of Zougei is the superhuman feats that make us rediscover our human abilities.
Please enjoy the charm of Shanghai Zougei, which continues to evolve while preserving its tradition.

Qipao Old Street, a water town

There are a number of water towns in the suburbs of Shanghai, the most famous being Zhouzhuang and Zhujiajiao, but they are a bit far from the city. However, Qibao Laojie is a water town located about 30 minutes by subway from the city. It is a cozy tourist attraction that will make you feel like you are on a short trip within an hour or two.

Shanghai Zoo

The highlight of the Shanghai Zoo is that it is a rare zoo where you can see giant pandas. Even in China, the home of the giant panda, there are actually only two zoos where you can see giant pandas, and one of them is the Shanghai Zoo, where you can see giant pandas up close.

Shanghai Science & Technology Museum

Shanghai Science and Technology Museum provides visitors with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and spirit of science and technology. There are 14 themed exhibition halls open to the public under the theme of “Nature, Man and Technology”. These are: Animal World, Spectrum of Life, Spider Exhibit, Exploring the Earth, Cradle of Designers, Children’s Science Museum, Light of Wisdom, Home of the Earth, Information Age, Robot World, Light of Exploration, Man and Health, and Space Navigation. There is also the Chinese Ancient Science and Technology Museum, which introduces ancient Chinese inventions and creations; the Explorers’ Hall, which introduces famous explorers from home and abroad; and the Scholars’ Hall, which introduces modern scientists in Shanghai. Four special theaters – IMAX 3D Theater, IMAX Dome Theater, IWERKS Theater, and Space Theater – make it the largest science education movie theater in Asia.
