Shinjuku Area

Shinjuku is a shopping, entertainment, and office district centered on Shinjuku Station that spans the southwestern part of Shinjuku-ku and part of the northern part of Shibuya-ku in Tokyo, Japan. It is one of the busiest areas in Tokyo. and is one of the three major sub-centers along with Shibuya and Ikebukuro.
As soon as you step out of the ticket gates of Shinjuku Station, you are greeted by skyscrapers, a wide shopping street, and a plethora of cafes, bars, and restaurants. Nishi-Shinjuku is home to a forest of skyscrapers, while Higashi-Shinjuku is the hub of shopping, dining, and entertainment. Kabukicho, a maze of neon-lit areas, is one of the largest entertainment districts in Japan, with a high concentration of restaurants, amusement facilities, and movie theaters.

East side of Shinjuku Station

It is the largest shopping district in the Shinjuku area. The east exit of Shinjuku Station is densely packed with long-established department stores such as Isetan Shinjuku, specialty stores, and restaurants, centered around the Shinjuku 3-chome intersection, and the waves of people never cease day and night, making it the busiest shopping district in Japan. Studio Alta near the east exit of the station and the police box at the central east exit are among the most popular meeting places in Shinjuku, and are extremely crowded at the end of the working day.

Kabukicho is the largest entertainment district in Japan, with a concentration of restaurants, amusement facilities, and movie theaters. It is called “the town that never sleeps” and is brightly lit with neon lights even after midnight. Along with Susukino in Sapporo and Nakasu in Fukuoka, Kabukicho is known as one of the three major entertainment districts in Japan.

Skyscrapers in Shinjuku

It was in the 1970s that the Nishi-Shinjuku area began to develop as a town lined with skyscrapers. Surprisingly, 50 years have already passed since then. The buildings have been shown in many novels and movies as a symbol of the cutting edge of the times.
